Remember the 93 year old PhD applicant ? He was here again today, he just stopped by my office to give me his research proposal and seek suggestions for potential academic supervisors. He was dressed in a three-piece suit with his hair slicked back. He let me know that amongst the papers he had given me was a letter from his doctor stating that he “was in excellent health”. At the end he thanked me and shook my hand. I wondered how strange it must be, in his suit and brill-creamed hair shaking the hand of a woman 70 years younger than him with a shaved head, wearing a Kevin Bacon t-shirt and ripped high tops. He was born in 1918 - can you even imagine?
